What is a private GP appointment?

A Private GP appointment is a consultation with a fully qualified, GMC-registered doctor that you book and pay for directly. You don’t need private health insurance, and you don’t need a referral. You can come to us with anything you’d normally take to your NHS GP, and more: an acute illness, a worrying symptom, a long-term condition, your child’s health, or that niggling concern you’ve been putting off for months.

The difference is time and access. Every consultation lasts 30 minutes as standard, so your doctor has the time to listen properly, examine you thoroughly and get to the root of the problem rather than just the symptom in front of them. You stay registered with your NHS GP throughout, and with your consent we’ll share our consultation notes with them, so your care stays joined up.

Your doctor, not just any doctor

Here’s something we feel strongly about. Many private care providers offer one-off GP appointments (e.g. at private hospitals with a GP service attached, online providers, and calls via apps). What almost none of them offers is building a professional care relationship with you.

At a hospital GP service, you’ll usually see whichever doctor happens to be on shift. They may be perfectly capable, but they’ll likely not know you, and next time you’ll start from scratch with someone new.

We do things differently. At Essex Private Doctors, you see your GP. The same doctor, appointment after appointment, year after year. A doctor who knows your medical history, your family, what’s normal for you and what isn’t. That continuity of care isn’t a nice extra; it’s often how the subtle things get spotted early. It’s traditional family medicine, the way general practice used to be, with the time and attention modern life rarely allows.

Same-day GP appointment – how we can help

Our private doctors see patients of all ages, for almost any concern, including:

Expert care under one roof – additional services

This is where we’re genuinely different from other private GP services in Essex. Most private clinics can offer you a consultation. We can offer you an expert team.

Dr Alice Scott, our clinic founder, medical director, and British Menopause Society accredited specialist, leads the Essex Menopause Clinic. She also has expertise in the management of sleep problems.

Dr Henry Grundy-Wheeler offers ADHD assessment and management and minor surgery

Dr Eleanor Beddoe has particular expertise in allergy testing and management and holds a qualification in menopause care.

Dr Sara Luck has specialist training in lifestyle medicine, and she is also training in the fitting coils and pessaries for prolapse.

Dr Iain MacGarrow brings specialist cardiology expertise, including holter monitoring and blood pressure assessment.

Dr Tom Robson specialises in men’s health, care of the elderly medicine, and health screening.

Dr Zoe Bailey has specialist training in helping women to navigate the menopause, and she also has skills in the management of sleep problems.

Florence Rowe, our registered dietitian, supports patients with nutritional expertise, and body composition analysis.

So, if your appointment uncovers something that needs a specialist eye, whether that’s a hormonal issue, a skin concern or a heart rhythm question, you won’t be sent away with a letter and a long wait. In most cases, the right expertise is already here, and your own GP stays at the centre of your care throughout.

Private Doctor Brentwood

Booking is simple: call us or book online, and we’ll usually see you the same day. Your consultation takes place at our surgery on Crown Street in Brentwood, less than ten minutes’ walk from Brentwood station, with parking close by. We also offer virtual, video appointments, where appropriate.

Your doctor will take a thorough history, examine you where needed, and talk everything through in plain English. With a full 30 minutes, there’s time to cover more than one concern if you need to. If you need blood tests or an ECG, we can usually do these during the same appointment. Any additional investigations carry a separate charge, which we’ll always discuss with you before going ahead: no surprises on your invoice.

You’ll leave with a clear plan. That might be a private prescription, treatment started that day, a referral to one of our in-house specialists, or simply the reassurance that all is well. And because you’ll see the same doctor next time, your care builds on itself rather than starting again from scratch.

Private GP Essex and beyond

Our surgery is in the heart of Brentwood, and we look after patients from right across Essex:

Private GP Shenfield, Billericay, Chelmsford, Ingatestone, Hutton, Warley, Ongar, Wickford, Basildon, Romford, Hornchurch, Upminster, Epping, Harlow, Loughton, Chigwell, Grays, Southend, Braintree, Witham, Maldon and Colchester.

We also welcome patients from North and East London. With Brentwood on the Elizabeth line, we’re a straightforward journey from Stratford, Liverpool Street and beyond, and many of our London patients tell us the trip takes less time than getting an appointment closer to home.
