PRIVATE SLEEP CLINIC ESSEX
Specialist help for insomnia, sleep apnoea and poor sleep: GP-led care, all under one roof
Sleep well again, wake up restored, and protect your long-term health
If you are lying awake night after night, waking exhausted no matter how long you spend in bed, or your partner has noticed you snoring or stopping breathing in your sleep, we can help.
At Essex Private Doctors, our private sleep clinic brings together GPs with postgraduate training in sleep medicine, cognitive behavioural therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), and home sleep apnoea testing: proper medical diagnosis first, then the right treatment for you.
Why patients choose our clinic:
- Medical assessment before any therapy or testing, so we treat the real cause, not just the symptom
- Home sleep apnoea testing over 48 hours in your own bed, with results analysed and reported by a sleep physiologist: no hospital stay or time away from family
- CBT-I: the gold-standard, evidence-based treatment for insomnia, recommended ahead of sleeping tablets and delivered face to face by our own doctors
- Integrated specialist care: menopause, cardiology and dietetics expertise within the same practice
- Continuity with your Private GP throughout your treatment
- Appointments within days
- Sleep Clinic Leads: Dr Alice Scott and Dr Zoe Bailey
GPs with additional postgraduate training in the management of sleep disorders. Dr Scott is also a BMS-accredited menopause specialist and Dr Bailey is a GP with a special interest in menopause.

Why Good Sleep Matters
Persistent poor sleep is never just an inconvenience. There are health risks associates with poor sleep, such as high blood pressure, heart disease, type 2 diabetes, weight gain, low mood, anxiety and poor concentration. Untreated sleep apnoea carries particular risks for your heart and can affect your safety to drive.
Yet sleep problems are among the most under-treated conditions in medicine. Many people struggle for years, cycling between over-the-counter remedies, sleep tracker apps and repeat prescriptions, without ever having a proper diagnosis. That diagnosis matters, because “I can’t sleep” has many different causes, and each needs a different approach. Read about the health risks of poor sleep.
Sleep Problems We Assess and Treat
What Makes Our Sleep Clinic Different
Most sleep services in Essex offer one piece of the puzzle. NHS sleep clinics focus on sleep apnoea, with waiting lists that can stretch for many months. Therapy providers offer talking treatments without medical assessment. Online companies will post you a testing kit without ever examining you.
We do it differently, and in the right order.
Medical diagnosis comes first. Poor sleep can be driven by an undiagnosed medical condition: sleep apnoea, thyroid problems, iron deficiency, restless legs, menopause, medication side effects, anxiety or depression. A therapist cannot diagnose these. Your assessment is with a GP who can examine you, arrange blood tests or a home sleep study where appropriate, and rule out the causes that need medical treatment.
Then the right treatment, delivered by the right clinician. That might be CBT-I with Dr Zoe Bailey or Dr Alice Scott, treatment for sleep apnoea, hormone treatment alongside our menopause clinic, or a carefully managed plan to come off sleeping tablets. Because our specialists work under one roof, your care is joined up: no repeating your story, no referral letters disappearing into the void.
And you stay with a named GP throughout. We review your progress, adjust your plan and remain responsible for your care from first appointment to final review.
Please note our sleep clinic is for adults. We do not offer overnight hospital-based sleep studies; our home testing means you sleep in your own bed, which most patients prefer and which often gives a truer picture of your normal night.

Your Journey Through the Sleep Clinic
1. Comprehensive sleep assessment. A full 30-minute consultation with one of our GPs covering your sleep history, medical history, medications, lifestyle and daytime symptoms.
2. Diagnosis. Where indicated, we arrange blood tests and/or a 48-hour home sleep study. Every sleep study is analysed and reported by a sleep physiologist, then explained to you in plain English at a follow-up review.
3. Personalised treatment plan. CBT-I, medical treatment, integrated menopause care, supervised medication withdrawal, or fast-track specialist referral where your condition needs hospital-based care.
4. Follow-up and review. Sleep problems rarely resolve in a single appointment. We build in review from the start, so your plan adapts as you improve.
