Well Woman Health Check

Well Woman Health Check

Your health is important, and our Well Woman Screening is designed to give you a comprehensive health MOT. It’s a proactive way to ensure you’re doing all you can to take care of your health.

Your wellness health screening will enable us to detect any potential health issues (before they cause symptoms), and identify health risks, which puts us in a good position to do something about them.

As women, we’re often busy with work and looking after other people; a Well Woman Health Check is a way to ensure you’re taking care of yourself, and taking action to optimise your health and well-being.

Health Screening with a Private GP

Your health check starts with an in-depth GP consultation about your current health, your wellness goals, and any problems you may be experiencing.

You’ll have a whole hour together with a highly experienced GP for your health assessment, and you’ll be able to talk about a physical mental health concern you may have, and discuss how this relates to your past medical history, and any family history of illness.

You’ll be given time and space to talk about your diet, exercise, stress levels and sleep, and whether you’re experiencing any menopausal symptoms or sexual health problems.

You’ll also have a thorough review of any medications you may be taking, any contraception you may be using.

Physical Examination

You’ll undergo a top-to-toe examination to look at your overall health, including:

  • Weight, height and body mass index

  • Blood pressure check

  • ECG (heart health trace) to look for signs of heart disease and heart rhythm abnormalities.

  • Examination of your heart and lungs, nervous system, abdomen, musculoskeletal system, ears and eyes, and skin.

  • Breast examination
  • Pelvic examination (and a smear test or swab testing, if requested) *

  • Urine testing

  • qFIT – Quantitative Faecal Immunochemical Test (which is a test that looks haemoglobin in stool and is used as part of bowel cancer screening)

After the blood tests have been processed at the laboratory, you will then have a follow-up consultation with the GP to go through the test results and what they mean for you and your health (usually held around a week later).

You’ll also receive a comprehensive report about the findings from your screening, which may include health-optimisation or lifestyle change recommendations.

If the health screening reveals a problem that may need further attention (for example, if your blood pressure reading is high), the GP can assist you either by taking you through further tests or investigations, an onward referral to a specialist, or by making recommendations to your own NHS or Private GP.

CT coronary angiography

Based on a person’s medical history, family background, and current symptoms, we may recommend further assessment, which can include referral for a CT coronary angiogram. This scan is a non-invasive way of examining the coronary arteries that supply the heart muscle. Using advanced CT imaging and an iodine contrast agent, it creates detailed 3D images that allow clinicians to identify any narrowing or obstruction within the arteries. It is particularly valuable when assessing chest pain or unclear cardiac symptoms, as it provides fast, reliable results without the need for an invasive procedure.

When booking a health check, you should choose a morning appointment (i.e. before 11 am).

It’s important to attend the health check fasted from the night before.

This means no food after midnight until the time of your appointment, but you are free to drink water.
